Spaying/Neutering

We recommend spaying and neutering all mammals to extend their life and promote good health.

Reproductive disease such as neoplasia (cancer) and hyperplasia (overgrowth of an organ) are unfortunately very common in our small mammals. and oftentimes when a problem arises it may be too late to intervene.

We recommend having your pet spayed or neutered before the age of 2 for rabbits, 1 year in guinea pigs and 6 months in rats.

Male mammals may exhibit signs of aggression, urine spraying, hypersexual behaviors, and try to escape.

Female mammals often develop mammary, uterine, or ovarian disease which if left untreated may lead to pain, bleeding, and eventually metastasis to other organs.
