What Students Are Saying:

“I did a month-long externship at the Exotic Animal Hospital of Philadelphia during my 3rd year of vet school and absolutely loved it! The externship was super hands on and the team was amazing. I worked directly alongside the Doctors to come up with treatment plans, scrubbed in to multiple surgeries and spoke with clients regularly. Both the Doctors and Technicians were extremely knowledgeable and taught me new skills that I will utilize in my future career. During my externship, I cared for a wide range of different species (an axolotl, ferret, chameleon, numerous rabbits and various avian species - just to name a few) and now feel more comfortable seeing these animals in the future. You do not need to have extensive exotics experience before doing this externship, as the team welcomes all knowledge levels and will make sure you feel comfortable no matter what. This opportunity confirmed that I want to work as an exotics veterinarian in the future and I highly recommend this externship program to any current vet student!”

“"I truly loved my externship experience at EAHP! Dr. Rassin and her team are wonderful people that have expanded my connections and friendships within the exotic companion animal community, which has been invaluable. I was taught a lot of medical knowledge during my time there, while still being challenged to utilize and develop my problem solving and clinical reasoning skills while discussing cases. I was also fortunate enough to be able to observe a lot of client communication within the hospital and I still apply much of those principles to my client interactions as a practicing veterinarian to this day. If I were to change anything about my preparation for this externship, I wish I spent more time researching safe medications that are often used to treat common conditions in exotic species."

I thoroughly enjoyed my externship at EAHP! Dr. Rassin was a wealth of knowledge and a fantastic teacher. She was always willing to talk through the cases with me, discuss treatment plans, and answer my many questions. Beyond medical knowledge, I gained much insight from our discussions about business in veterinary medicine and about the different opportunities available to me post-grad. The technicians were wonderful resources, experienced, and great to get along with. Everyone was very encouraging and offered many opportunities to teach me new skills. The externship was very hands-on and I got to see a variety of species and cases. By the end of the two weeks, I felt much more comfortable working with exotics. I highly recommend this externship to anyone interested in exotic animal medicine— you won’t regret it!
